Building decks in Oceanside
Oceanside is a large South Shore hamlet in the Town of Hempstead with a substantial canal-front section, and much of the south end sits in a FEMA flood zone. On the water that means salt-rated fasteners, careful attention to the base flood elevation, and layouts designed around the bulkhead. Inland, Oceanside runs to capes, split-levels and expanded ranches on compact lots, where the real question is how much of the yard a deck should take versus leaving open lawn.
