Building decks in Bohemia
Bohemia is an inland hamlet in the Town of Islip, so permitting runs through the Town, and the housing is solid post-war suburban: ranches, splits and colonials on regular lots, many expanded once or twice over the years. Grade is generally gentle here, so decks tend to be ground-level or a single step down from a kitchen slider, and the real design question is how much of the backyard to give up. Composite has largely replaced wood locally, mostly because nobody wants to re-stain every other spring.
