Building decks in Glen Cove
Glen Cove is one of only two incorporated cities on Long Island, which matters practically: it runs its own building department with its own permit process and inspection schedule, separate from the surrounding Town of Oyster Bay. The terrain is true North Shore (streets that climb and fall toward Hempstead Harbor and the Sound), so a yard that drops away from the house turns a simple deck into an elevated structure with deeper footings and a longer stair run. Older detailed homes and water-view lots push these projects toward higher-finish railings and trim, and anything near the water needs salt-rated hardware.
