Building decks in Plainview
Plainview went up fast in the 1950s and 60s, so most of the village is split-levels, high ranches and center-hall colonials on lots that are noticeably deeper than the South Shore average. That extra depth is why Plainview backyards can carry a full outdoor room — deck, dining area and a kitchen or fire feature — without crowding the property line. On the split-levels, the usual move is a two-tier deck so the kitchen door and the den door each get their own landing.
